Introducing Judgment-Free, Inclusive Weight Management

Introduction

I’m excited to introduce you to Juno’s new Inclusive Weight Management Service. At Juno, we understand the unique challenges faced by individuals in their weight management journey, especially in overlooked communities. Our vision is to support you with compassion, respect, and personalized care

Why We Created This Service

At Juno Medical, we’ve seen firsthand how traditional weight management programs often fall short. They can sometimes be biased, self-righteous, and fail to consider the diverse needs of individuals. That’s why we’ve created a program that is different – one that is inclusive, non-judgmental, and designed with you in mind.

Studies show that about 40% of adults in the United States are overweight, and this number is even higher among black and Latina women. Unfortunately, many people face stigma and bias when seeking help for weight management. According to a study by the University of Connecticut’s Rudd Center for Food Policy & Health, 57% of women report experiencing weight bias from doctors. This bias can discourage people from seeking the help they need. Our goal is to change that by providing a supportive and empowering environment.

Our Beliefs and Approach

We believe that everyone deserves respect and high-quality healthcare, no matter their size. Our approach is rooted in understanding that weight is influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, environment, and personal history. We reject the idea that one size fits all when it comes to weight management. Instead, we focus on personalized care plans that consider your unique circumstances.

One of the core principles of our program is to help you develop a positive relationship with your body and food. We recognize that mental health is just as important as physical health. Our team includes not only doctors but also nutritionists, therapists, and fitness experts who work together to provide comprehensive care.

What to Expect

When you join our Weight Management Service, you will receive a thorough assessment that includes understanding your medical history, lifestyle, and goals. Based on this assessment, we create a personalized plan that may include nutritional counseling, physical activity recommendations, and mental health support.

Here’s what you can expect from our program:

  1. Compassionate Care: Our team is trained to provide care that is empathetic and respectful. We are here to support you without judgment.
  2. Personalized Plans: No two people are the same, so why should their weight management plans be? We tailor our recommendations to fit your life.
  3. Holistic Approach: We consider all aspects of your health, including mental well-being, to help you achieve your goals.
  4. Ongoing Support: Weight management is a journey, and we are here for you every step of the way. We offer regular follow-ups and adjustments to your plan as needed.

Why This Matters

The journey to a healthier weight is not just about the numbers on the scale. It’s about improving overall health and well-being. For example, maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the risk of chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), losing just 5-10% of your body weight can significantly improve health outcomes.

However, it’s also important to remember that health is not solely determined by weight. At Juno, we focus on overall health and help you set realistic, sustainable goals. We celebrate all progress, no matter how small it might seem.

Addressing Bias and Stigma

We know that bias and stigma can be significant barriers to seeking help. Many people avoid going to the doctor because they fear being judged about their weight. This fear is disproportionately present among all women, but especially so among black and Latina women. Research has shown that these communities face higher rates of weight-related bias and discrimination, both in healthcare and in society at large.

At Juno, we are committed to creating a safe space where you feel valued and understood. We are part of a growing movement in healthcare to end bias and provide equitable care for everyone. Our team is trained to recognize and address their own biases, ensuring that you receive care that considers cultural context and is free from judgment.

Empowering You

Our ultimate goal is to empower you to take control of your health. We provide you with the tools and support you need to make informed decisions about your body. This empowerment comes from knowledge, compassion, and respect.

We also understand that weight management is deeply personal and can be emotional. That’s why we emphasize self-love and acceptance throughout your journey. We want you to feel confident and proud of the steps you are taking toward better health.
